Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) is a protocol used by Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) technology that is used to send text messages between a mobile phone and an application hosted by the mobile operator running on the network. The types of application may include balance check, mobile chatting, advertising etc. USSD is a session-based protocol, it establishes a real time session between mobile handset and application handling the service.
