FullForms™ is a comprehensive and trusted online source for abbreviations, acronyms, initialisms, and other short forms. Since 2011, we have built a curated database spanning 17 categories, 240+ subcategories, and 230+ countries and regions.

Just as dictionaries established a standard way to represent words, with pronunciation, part of speech, and meaning, FullForms is the world's first platform to define a structured representation format for abbreviations. Every entry includes:

• Case sensitivity: because in abbreviations, case matters (for example, capital M can represent Mega, while lowercase m can represent milli)
• Category and subcategory: the same abbreviation can mean different things in different contexts (for example, ABS in medical vs. technology)
• Country or region: abbreviations are often region-specific (for example, MIT means Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States, but something entirely different elsewhere)
• Popularity ranking: so the most common meaning appears first
• Type classification: whether it is an initialism, acronym, portmanteau, numeronym, mnemonic, code, or another form
• Human-edited description with a reference source for verifiability
• Multilingual support: with transliteration and translation across multiple languages

We call this structured representation a Full Form, a standardized way to present what an abbreviation stands for, along with the context needed to understand it. The two-word term "Full Form" is the name for this format, and FullForms is the world's first platform built around it.

FullForms is community-driven. Anyone can suggest a new entry, and every submission goes through a review process before being published to maintain accuracy and quality.

What Makes Us Different

Most abbreviation websites are simple lookup tools. You search, you get a flat list of possible meanings, and you are left to figure out which one applies. There is no context, no way to tell which meaning is most common, and no indication of whether it applies to your country or field.
