Its main products and services business is in infrastructure, consumer products, and electronic devices. Toshiba was founded in 1939 by the merger of Tokyo Denki (Tokyo Electric) and Shibaura Seisakusho (Shibaura Engineering Works). It was soon nicknamed Toshiba, but it was not until 1984 that the company was officially renamed Toshiba Corporation.
