CHAdeMO is a Direct Current (DC) charging standard for electric vehicles. It was developed in 2010 by a collaboration of Japanese Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturers and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO).
CHAdeMO is short for CHArge de MOve.
The term is derived from the Japanese phrase “Ocha demo ikagadesu ka”(おちゃでもいかがですか), translating to English as "How about a cup of tea?", referring to the time it would take to charge a car.
