What does C mean?

Celsius (°C), also known as Centigrade (°C) scale, is a scale of temperature on which water freezes at 0° and boils at 100° at sea level and under standard atmospheric pressure, also known as standard conditions.
The centigrade scale was the original name for the Celsius temperature scale, but it was later changed to the Celsius temperature scale in honor of Anders Celsius, who developed the scale in 1742.
The name "centigrade" refers to the 100-degree interval between the freezing point and boiling point of water, with "centi-" meaning "one hundred" and "grade" meaning "steps".
