What does TAN mean?
Tax Account Number (TAN) or Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number, is a 10-digit alphanumeric number issued by the Income Tax Department to individuals who are required to deduct tax at source or collect tax at source. TAN is required to be obtained by individuals who are responsible for Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) or Tax Collection at Source (TCS) on behalf of the Government under the Indian Income Tax Act, 1961.
