What does NSM mean?
Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy (NSM) is a type of breast removal surgery (mastectomy) in which the breast tissue is removed, through a small incision, all of the breast glandular tissue is removed from beneath the overlying skin and nipple.
In NSM, the surgeon preserves the entire breast skin envelope including the Nipple-Areola Complex (NAC), which includes the nipple itself and the darker pigmented circle of skin that surrounds it (areola) to facilitate breast reconstruction procedures.
