What does COD mean?
Catastrophic Optical Damage (COD) is a laser failure mode that occurs when photon density on the facet of the laser diode is high enough to damage the diode.
COD happens when a semiconductor junction is overloaded by exceeding its power density and absorbs too much of the produced light energy, causing the semiconductor material to melt and recrystallize.
