What does CMT mean?
Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) is a welding method that is usually performed by a welding robot. It uses a combination of welding and brazing techniques to join metal parts.
In the CMT process, the welding machine is equipped with a sensor that detects a short circuit when the electrode contacts the workpiece. When a short circuit is detected, the machine sends a signal to retract the electrode, which stops the flow of the welding filler material.
This retraction allows time for the weld to cool and solidify before the next drop of filler material is deposited
Note:
The term "cold" is used to indicate that it uses a lower heat input and current density than traditional welding processes.
