What does SSL mean?

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a protocol that provides secure communication between web servers and browsers. SSL ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.

Note:
Both SSL 2.0 and 3.0 have been deprecated by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) in 2011 and 2015 respectively and has been replaced by the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol.
