What does SENSEX mean?

SENSEX or Standard & Poor’s (S&P) Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index or BSE 30, is a stock market index of 30 well-established and financially sound companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). BSC is the oldest stock exchange in India, located at Dalal Street, Mumbai. SENSEX is a portmanteau of the words Sensitive and Index. SENSEX is composed of 30 of the largest and most actively-traded stocks on the BSE, which are representative of various industrial sectors of the Indian economy and act as a measure of India's economy.
