What does FWD mean?
Four-Wheel Drive (FWD or 4WD), also called 4×4 (four by four), refers to a drivetrain configuration in many offroad vehicles where power is supplied to all four wheels simultaneously. This provides better traction and control in slippery or off-road conditions.
The Four-Wheel Drive system is commonly found in off-road vehicles and certain Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).
Note:
FWD could also mean Front-Wheel Drive (FWD), a drivetrain configuration in which the engine's power is primarily delivered to the front wheels of a vehicle for propulsion. This setup is commonly found in passenger cars.
