What does Emacs mean?
Emacs is a text editors used mainly on Unix-based systems. Emacs was originally an acronym for Editor MACroS. The first Emacs was a set of macros written in 1976 by Richard Matthew Stallman (RMS) for the text editor "Text Editor and COrrector (TECO)".
