The Department of Public Information (DPI) was established in 1946 by General Assembly resolution 13 (1). As the public voice of the United Nations, DPI promotes global awareness and greater understanding of the work of the United Nations, using various communication tools including radio, television, print, the Internet, videoconferencing and increasingly other new information technology.
