Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) is the world's first packet-switched network and is the predecessor of the Internet. It was developed in 1969 by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), now the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) of the United States Department of Defense.
