What does ACDA mean?
Assured Clear Distance Ahead (ACDA) is the distance ahead of a vehicle which can be seen to be clear of hazards by the driver, within which the driver of a motor vehicle should be able to bring the vehicle to a halt. ACDA rule holds the operator of a motor vehicle responsible to avoid collision with any obstacle that might appear in the vehicle’s path. According to ACDA rule a person shall not operate a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than that which will permit a stop within the assured, clear distance ahead.
