What does DW mean?
Daniel Wellington (DW) is a watch manufacturing company based in Stockholm, Sweden. The company was founded by Filip Tysander in 2011.
The company is named after a backpacker by the name of Daniel Wellington, whom Tysander met back in 2006 when he was hiking through Australia. Tysander immediately noticed that Wellington had secured a high-end Rolex watch to a NATO band, which is a simple black nylon strap. This moment inspired Tysander to start his own watch company when he arrived back in Sweden.
Note:
NATO straps are typically one-piece watch straps that are lightweight, quick-drying, durable, and very simple to use. The NATO namesake comes from the NATO Stock Number (NSN) used when ordering the strap.
