What does K2 mean?
K2 is the second highest mountain in the world. The name K2 came from the name of the mountain range Karakoram. K2 is also known as Mount Godwin Austen, named for the man who first climbed it.
The name K2 was originated from the notation used by Thomas Montgomerie, a British surveyor who participated in the Great Trigonometric Survey of India. During the Great Trigonometric Survey of India he labeled the most prominent peaks as K1 And K2, where K stands for Karakoram.
