What does ESI mean?
Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) is a social security and health insurance scheme for Indian workers sanctioned under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) act of 1948, aims to accomplish the task of protecting ‘employees’ against the hazards of sickness, maternity, disablement and death due to employment injury and to provide medical care to insured persons and their families. ESI is managed by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), an autonomous corporation by a statutory creation under Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
